ABSTRACT: This study investigates the impact of early childhood education on young children's understanding of biodiversity. The introduction of biodiversity concepts at an early age can foster a deeper appreciation for the natural world. Objectives included evaluating children's knowledge of biodiversity, identifying effective teaching practices, and assessing long-term benefits of early biodiversity education. A survey design was selected for its effectiveness in collecting broad data. Purposive sampling was employed to select 180 children from preschools in Cross River State, Nigeria. Findings revealed that children who received biodiversity education showed a greater understanding and appreciation of various species and ecosystems. Hands-on activities, interactive lessons, and nature explorations were particularly effective. It was recommended that early childhood programs integrate biodiversity education to enhance children's understanding and respect for natural diversity.
